On December 15, 2024, the PSL 9 Draft 2024 will take place. Six teams—Lahore Qalandars, Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators, Karachi Kings, Peshawar Zalmi, and Multan Sultans—will choose players from different categories, such as Platinum, Gold, Silver, Diamond, and Emerging players. Karachi is where the event will take place.

PCB says that there will be a lot of international players, managers, and coaches in the Pakistan Super League 9 Draft.

The HBL Pakistan Super League will have a lot of players from both Pakistan and other countries. PCB has already announced the order of picks for the Draft, and Lahore Qalandars will pick first in the platinum category. Most of the players, like Kamran Akmal and Muhammad Hafeez, are leaving their teams to play for other teams this year.

What is PSL Draft?

Before the PSL tournament starts each year, there is an event called the “PSL Draft,” where the teams choose players from five different categories to fill out their teams.

Lahore: While the Pakistan cricket team grinds in Australia, the country gears up for Pakistan Super League (PSL) Player Draft 2024 which is scheduled to take place on December 13 at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. A total of 485 international players from 22 nations have registered for the PSL Player Draft 2024. 46 players are in the Platinum category while 76 players have signed up in the Diamond category.

England (158) have maximum representations in the PSL Player Draft 2024 followed by West Indies (58), Sri Lanka (40), Afghanistan (36), South Africa (30), Bangladesh (21), New Zealand (18), Australia (16), Zimbabwe (11) and Ireland (9). Meanwhile, Quetta Gladiators have appointed former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson as the head coach of the side. Watson replaces Moin Khan, who has been elevated to the role of Team Director.

What Is a PSL Draft System?

Unlike in Indian Premier League (IPL), PSL uses a draft system from where the teams pick players across five categories, namely Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver, and Emerging. The PSL teams must have a minimum of four Pakistan and four overseas players and the squad size should range from 16 to 20 players.

How PSL Draft Works?

In the PSL Draft, teams choose players from five different groups to fill out their 18-person teams. Each team has a specific pick order, which is decided by a random draw by the PCB. There is a list of players from each category, and the franchise chooses a player from that list. In that category, the price for each player is the same.
